Sex and Faith: It’s Complicated

November 25, 2012
Pastor Fred Nelson

We took our “lenses” and the virtue of chastity and put them to use in some of the gray and complicated areas of our sexual selves to see if they could bring some much-needed clarity – or at least open up some new ways to discuss them with each other as we search for God’s will for us.

Sex and Faith: It’s a Gift

November 11, 2012
Pastor Fred Nelson

This message began a three-week series called Sex and Faith. In a culture in which our sexuality is both over-exploited and under-discussed, we need to create some space to reflect on and discuss our sexual selves in the context of our Christian faith. Over the series, we’ll be discussing how our sexuality is a gift, a problem, and often complicated. Since talking about our sexuality can often cause embarrassment or confusion, and since we often seem to be talking past one another when it comes to sex, we began with an exploration of six different “lenses” through which we look at sex and understand the role it plays in our lives. We also looked at a core truth of the biblical view of human sexuality – that it’s a good and precious gift from our creator.

Pastor Carol Breimeier

The church is essential to God’s plan for the world during this bridging time between Jesus’ life on earth and his coming again to usher in the kingdom of God. In a cold, wintry world, Christians, by the power of the Holy Spirit, testify both to that warm, wonderful future and to the past events of Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection that secure that future for the world.
