Advent Conspiracy: Give More

Give More PresenceDecember 16, 2012
Pastor Carol Breimeier

In our Christmas preparations, instead of using up all our time and all our money, what if we cut back a bit, leave a little margin… and then use that salvaged time and money to give of ourselves in ways that reflect Christmas rather than obscuring it?

Advent Conspiracy: Spend Less

Pastor Fred Nelson

We continue our four-week message series based on the Advent Conspiracy movement. In a culture where consumerism powerfully shapes our understanding and experience of Christmas, we take time to step back from the way we normally “do Christmas” and explore some different ways of thinking and behaving this season. We encourage each other to substitute consumption with compassion by practicing four simple, but powerful, countercultural concepts. In the previous week, we encouraged each other to “re-prime” for Christmas so that we might worship fully. Here we turn to one practical way we might conspire to behave differently by strategically deciding to spend less. What would that look like, and what new opportunities could it open up?

Advent Conspiracy: Worship Fully

We begin a four-week message series based on the Advent Conspiracy movement. In a culture where consumerism powerfully shapes our understanding and experience of Christmas, we take some time to step back from the way we normally “do Christmas” and explore some different ways of thinking and behaving this season. We encourage each other to substitute consumption with compassion by practicing four simple, but powerful, countercultural concepts. And the first is for us to “Worship Fully,” because Christmas begins and ends with Jesus.
