Jesus, who fully understood both human reality and the mind of God, came to the world to shine the light of truth in a sin-darkened world. He called human beings to see the light and believe in him. And, by his death and the resurrection we celebrate at Easter, he conquered the darkness forever.

The 11th chapter of John’s gospel tells the amazing story of Jesus giving life to his friend Lazarus, who had died four days earlier. In a series of dramatic scenes, Jesus delays going to Lazarus before his death, is moved to tears by the grief of Lazarus’s sisters and friends, and then calls Lazarus to come out of his tomb. It’s an unmistakable show of the power Jesus has received from his Father.

In the 10th chapter of John’s gospel, Jesus says that he is the Good Shepherd. He is to those who believe in him like a shepherd to his sheep. He knows them by name, and they recognize his voice and follow him and only him. For those who want to follow Jesus in this time when we’re bombarded with many different, often strident voices, how do we distinguish the voice we want to follow? And do we trust him enough to follow with the obedience of sheep? (This recording begins with dialogue from the film “The Gospel of John.”)
